Susan Glasfurd, OAM, is always on hand to welcome the crew from the U.S. carriers and their supply ships. An incredible amount of work goes into organising and coordinating our welcome service for our U.S. Navy visitors. The coordination commences with alerting all AAAWA members that a shipis approaching and they will be needed to fill the roster.
Each volunteer member signs up for a 4 hour
shift and the shifts run from 8am to approx 10pm.

The coordination continues and includes liaising with the Port Authority, US and local security, with TELSTRA to put a phone line to the desk, taking messages from the many Australians, including families, who want to collect crew members & take them out for sightseeing or for a home cooked meal; decorating our designated area, organising radio announcements, organising a roster of our members to man the desk.
not to mention organising the groups of visitors who (by the hundreds) like to take one of our tours on the fabulous aircraft carriers while they are in port.
